The work of the Singapore Scout Association was highlighted in the Clean Up the World Activity Report 2009. Clean Up the World is a global campaign, backed by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), that inspires people to come together to live more sustainably and to protect and promote the environment for current and future generations. In an excerpt mentioning the involvement of the Tampines District:

For the third year running, the Singapore Scouts participated in the International Coastal Clean Up in Singapore’s Pasir Ris Park. Starting in the third week of September, approximately 100 volunteers took part in removing 180 kgs of waste from a 1.87km of coastline. While the clean up was taking place, a water testing program was run along with education about marine conservation.

Through their efforts the Singapore Scouts were able to clean up coastlines, waterways and mangroves. In addition, local youth were educated on the importance of marine conservation, allowing them to connect with others in their community.

This World Environment Day, Abdullah Rasheed, Regional Director (Asia-Pacific Region), World Organization of the Scout Movement has also shared with Scouts a message:

World Environment Day is on 5 June and Scouts could use this day to share ideas and make plans to take action to clean up their local areas.
